| Description: | Despite the growing use of both Virtual Machines and gamified cybersecurity platforms, there remains a lack of empirical research comparing their pedagogical effectiveness within structured ethical hacking courses. While existing studies highlight each platform’s strengths independently, few have investigated how these tools influence student engagement, comprehension, and skill acquisition when implemented side by side in a controlled academic setting. This gap forms the foundation for the present study. In the dynamic landscape of information technology, the selection of virtualization platforms and cybersecurity training environments holds pivotal importance for organizations and individuals alike. This study embarks on a nuanced exploration, aiming to compare two prominent entities in these domains: VMware, a stalwart in enterprise-level virtualization, and TryHackMe, an emerging force in practical cybersecurity training. As businesses increasingly rely on virtualization technologies to optimize resource utilization and enhance operational efficiency, the choice of a robust platform becomes paramount. Simultaneously, the demand for cybersecurity expertise has driven the evolution of training environments, with platforms like TryHackMe catering to the need for hands-on, immersive learning experiences. This comparative analysis delves into key criteria, including features, security measures, performance, cost considerations, user-friendliness, and community support, to provide a comprehensive understanding of the strengths and considerations associated with each platform. Through this exploration, we aim to guide decision-makers, IT professionals, and cybersecurity enthusiasts in making informed choices that align with their specific requirements and objectives. |
