Abstract: This chapter presents the fundamental principles of electronic communication systems, focusing on how information is transmitted from a source to a destination through a transmitter, channel, and receiver. It explains the importance of bandwidth as the frequency range a channel can support and information capacity as the maximum achievable data rate, based on the Shannon–Hartley theorem. The relationship between bandwidth and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is highlighted to show their direct impact on system performance. The chapter also discusses major noise sources, including thermal noise and interference, together with standard noise analysis methods such as SNR, noise factor, and noise figure, forming a foundation for practical communication system design.
