Abstract: Why this book? With the Internet, information on technical writing and on conducting research is widely available. However, for students embarking on their first research project, sieving through the vast amount of informa tion on the Internet can be a daunting and time-consuming task. There are indeed many books which have been published focusing on either technical writing or on research methodology. Project work, however, requires not just an understanding of research methodology, but also requires comple mentary skills in information search, technical writing, oral presentation as well as software application skills. Hence, this book adopts an inte grated approach which combines research skills and the complementary skills mentioned. This book has been designed with the specific needs of engineering and technical sciences students in mind by addressing their need for clear and practical guidelines on conducting and presenting their research projects.
