Abstract: | In recent years, a number of books on concrete technology have become available for use by students in civil engineering. Most of these books deal with the subject in a traditional manner, i.e., describing the characteristics of concrete making materials and engineering properties of concrete without adequate ref erence to the material science controlling the properties. The previous editions of the text on concrete technology by Professors P. K. Mehta and Paulo Monteiro, both of the prestigious University of California at Berkeley, adopted the microstructure-property relationship approach commonly used in all materials science books to provide scientific explanations for strength, durability, and other engineering properties of concrete. This approach was widely appreci ated, which is evident from the fact that the book has been translated and pub lished in several foreign languages. |
