Authors: Tang, Qi; Wu, Baotong; Chen, Wenbo; Yue, Jinyue
Abstract: Smart manufacturing is one of the key elements to realizing Industry 4.0, which helps to improve the production quality and efficiency of collaborative manufacturing companies. With the rapid development of information technology such as the Internet of Things, the application of digital twin technology in smart manufacturing is becoming more and more widespread. In the manufacturing process, companies still face problems such as slow data flow and a serious waste of idle equipment resources. The purpose of this paper is to carry out a digital twin-based smart manufacturing system that combines the concept of value co-creation to achieve the smart manufacturing goal of using fewer manufacturing resources to create greater system value. The system builds a multi-objective optimization model to enhance the value of the shared supply chain and then helps collaborative manufacturing enterprises to optimize their production capacity and use population intelligence algorithms to solve the problem. The results of the combined case study show that the system is effective in achieving good operation of dynamic equipment resources while improving the overall profit of the system by 13.26%. This study proposes a smart manufacturing system based on the digital twin and considering the value of the supply chain will effectively help collaborative manufacturing enterprises to respond to the market environment quickly, reduce the loss of manufacturing resources while also significantly reducing the operating costs of enterprises, and help to realize the value of the shared supply chain.

A NEW APPROACH TO CONTROLLING A HYDRAULIC INDIRECT ELEVATOR WITH A VARIABLE‑SPEED PUMP

Title: A NEW APPROACH TO CONTROLLING A HYDRAULIC INDIRECT ELEVATOR WITH A VARIABLE‑SPEED PUMP
Authors: Stawiński, Łukasz; Kosucki, Andrzej; Morawiec, Adrian; Skowrońska, Justyna
Abstract: The paper describes a new approach to the issue of controlling an indirect elevator with a bidirectional variable-speed pump and a simple controller based on the position sensor. The aim of this paper is to present a method of controlling the speed of the elevator to ensure smooth movement and proper positioning of the car on the floor, regardless of its load and ropes rigidity. The main feature of the proposed solution is the use of a frequency inverter in vector mode to control the speed of the car in both directions. The control function is based on virtual cams comparing actual measurements from the car position sensor. The proposed control strategy has been experimentally verified on the existing indirect elevator drive, and the obtained results indicate a very high accuracy in maintaining and shaping the speed and positioning of the car. The conducted research confirms the possibility of using a new method of controlling hydraulic and indirect elevators. The benefits of this method include a less complex hydraulic system, the control of overloads in the car and vibrations in the rope system, and the possibility of energy recovery.

A PERIDYNAMICS APPROACH TO FLEXIBLE MULTIBODY DYNAMICS FOR FRACTURE ANALYSIS OF MECHANICAL SYSTEMS

Title: A PERIDYNAMICS APPROACH TO FLEXIBLE MULTIBODY DYNAMICS FOR FRACTURE ANALYSIS OF MECHANICAL SYSTEMS
Authors: Vieira, Francisco; Pagaimo, João; Magalhães, Hugo; Ambrósio, Jorge; Araújo, Aurélio
Abstract: The classical theory of continuum mechanics is formulated using partial differential equations (PDEs) that fail to describe structural discontinuities, such as cracks. This limitation motivated the development of peridynamics, reformulating the classical PDEs into integral-differential equations. In this theory, each material point interacts with its neighbours inside a characteristic length-scale through bond-interaction forces. However, while peridynamics can simulate complex multi-physics phenomena, its integration in the study of mechanical systems is still limited. This work presents a methodology that incorporates a peridynamics formulation into a planar multibody dynamics (MBD) formulation to allow the integration of flexible structures described by peridynamics into mechanical systems. A flexible body is described by a collection of point masses, in analogy with the meshless collocation scheme commonly used for peridynamics discretisations. Each point mass interacts with other point masses through nonlinear forces governed by a bond-based peridynamics (BBPD) formulation. The virtual bodies methodology enables the definition of kinematic joints connecting the flexible body with the neighbouring bodies. The implementation of the methodology proposed is illustrated using various mechanisms with different levels of complexity. Notched plates subjected to different loading conditions are compared with the results presented in the literature of the peridynamics field. The deformations of a flexible slider-crank mechanism compare well with the results obtained using a classical flexible MBD formulation. Additionally, three scenarios involving a rotating pendulum illustrate how the methodology proposed allows simulating impact scenarios. The results demonstrate how this methodology is capable to successfully simulate highly nonlinear phenomena, including crack propagation, in a multibody framework.

COUPLED FLUID‑STRUCTURE SIMULATION OF A FLAPPING WING USING FREE MULTIBODY DYNAMICS SOFTWARE

Title: COUPLED FLUID‑STRUCTURE SIMULATION OF A FLAPPING WING USING FREE MULTIBODY DYNAMICS SOFTWARE
Authors: Caccia, Claudio; Guerrero, Joel; Masarati, Pierangelo
Abstract: Computer simulations offer invaluable insights into fluid-structure interaction phenomena, increasing our understanding of complex behaviors within fluid flows and enabling predictions of consequential effects. This paper explores flapping wing simulation using an original toolchain based on free software. The structural domain is modeled using multibody dynamics, interfaced with arbitrary fluid dynamics solvers through a general-purpose multiphysics coupling library. The proposed toolchain is validated against benchmark models, demonstrating its effectiveness in various applications. Our study, inspired by experimental ones, applies this coupling to investigate the hydroelastic behavior of a flexible wing. Wing motion characteristics, structural properties, and convergence criteria are analyzed through numerical simulations. While achieving appreciable agreement with experimental data on wing motion ratios, challenges in dealing with large displacements have been identified. Nonetheless, the present study provides valuable insights into fluid-structure interactions, laying the groundwork for future refinements in computational modeling techniques and advancing the understanding of bio-inspired flight mechanisms.
