EXPLORING STUDENTS’ EXPERIENCES WITH CHATGPT IN A WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT

Title: EXPLORING STUDENTS’ EXPERIENCES WITH CHATGPT IN A WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT
Authors: KANI ANAK LINYAW; Chwen Jen Chen
Abstract: ChatGPT is a text-based artificial intelligence (AI) generative tool with unprecedented affordances to
transform teaching and learning. This study aims to explore students’ learning experiences using
ChatGPT in a written assignment. It examines how students used ChatGPT to accomplish the assignment
and their perceptions of the tool. This exploratory, qualitative study involved six architectural technology
college students taking the Entrepreneurship course. It employed the focus group technique to collect
data that were then analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings show that students, in accomplishing the
assignment, used ChatGPT to generate ideas, provide explanations, perform translations and prompt
critical thinking. Students also perceived ChatGPT as spurting their excitement and providing handy
assistance in accomplishing the assignment. These findings provide evidence of how ChatGPT could
enrich students' learning experiences and point to the need to further educate students in harnessing the
full potential of this tool for learning purposes. There is also a need to impart AI literacy and academic
integrity understanding to students for effective and ethical integration of this tool into their learning
Description: Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are advancing rapidly and becoming more
pervasive in many facets of our lives. One recent example is ChatGPT, a chatbot created
by OpenAI with a conversational artificial intelligence interface. As one of the most
sophisticated artificial intelligence applications, ChatGPT has garnered significant
public attention worldwide (Tlili, 2023). ChatGPT generates textual responses highly
reminiscent of human language in response to given prompts (Eke, 2023; Lo, 2023). It
is a large language model capable of processing and generating human-like
conversations. It uses advanced machine learning techniques, particularly a type of
neural network called a transformer, to understand natural language and generate
appropriate responses to user queries. As a language model, it has been trained on a
massive amount of text data from the internet, enabling it to understand and respond to
diverse topics and conversations (OpenAI, 2023).

Abstract: Truancy is becoming more of a concern. Students who miss classes and never attend college for no
apparent cause. This study looked into the factors that contribute to truancy among Sarawak community
college students. Random sampling was used to conduct quantitative and descriptive research with 131
students from one of Sarawak's Community Colleges. According to the research findings, factors
contributing to truancy among students include a broken family, being forced to further their education
in a college community, and misusing electronic media such as a cellphone, computer, and television.
The study's findings indicate that institutions must implement more effective intervention measures to
ensure that the truancy problem does not spread further. Among the intervention measures proposed are
bettering lecturers' teaching quality and implementing more interactive counseling between lecturers
and students
Description: The vision set by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia for Community Colleges is to be
the leader of an excellent TVET institution in line with Malaysia's growth as a developing
country. TVET is full-time technical and vocational education and training, as well as lifelong
learning, provided to people of all ages and backgrounds to prepare them for employment and
contribute to the country's economic growth. In line with this desire, one of the Community
College's missions is to provide widespread access to high-quality, well-recognized TVET
programs. To achieve this mission, the challenge is to provide a high-quality TVET program
that produces graduates who are well-rounded in terms of intellectual, behavioral, disciplinary,
and technical skills

Authors: WINNE ANAK CHENGAI; Awangku Hassanal Bahar Pengiran Bagul
Abstract: The tourism and hospitality sector has been recognised as one of the fastest and largest growing
industries in the world, providing opportunities for job prospects, driving exports, and creating
tremendous prosperity around the globe. The study aims to examine students’ perception and their
commitment to work in tourism and hospitality field of work after graduation. Data were collected using
a set of questionnaires. Non-probability sampling technique was used in selecting the 117 respondents
from East Malaysia polytechnics who are majoring in tourism and hospitality programme with working
experience in the sector. The data were analysed using the SPSS 25.0 and presented in frequency and
percentages. The findings showed that the industry person congeniality has a significant medium
relationship with a commitment to work in the tourism and hospitality industry. The study has some
implication for industry person congeniality, promotion opportunities, managers and commitment to
work in the tourism and hospitality field of work

Abstract: The spread of the Covid 19 pandemic has affected various sectors. Education is one of
the hard-hit sectors. Nevertheless, teaching and learning have not stopped but is now
taking online classroom as an alternative form. The Malaysian government has urged
all the learning institutions, including polytechnic, to implement online teaching.
Students have attended the online classrooms since implementing the first Movement
Control Order (MCO 0.1) in 2020. This study aims to explore students’ perceptions of
the online classroom. Data collected using a set of questionnaires and non-probability
sampling techniques was used to select the students from Polytechnic Kota Kinabalu

Description: The Corona disease 2019 (COVID19) was first identified in the Wuhan
Province of the People’s Republic of China in December 2019. By March 2020, the
World Health Organization announced that this disease had gone from an epidemic
to a pandemic, with close to 200,000 cases in 146 countries and about 6,500 deaths.
The government immediately reacted by putting in place some preventive measures.
The other actions were immediate closure of all establishments and the suspension
